Neurolinguistic Programming

NEW! Relaxation and Visualisation Course for Cancer Patients
8 Week Course

Developed in the 1970s by John Grinder & Richard Bandler, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), comprises powerful techniques for personal transformation. Defined in numerous ways over the last 25 years, NLP is renowned as the study of excellence, a blueprint for improving communication & key tool for the rupture of negative thought & behaviour patterns.

Bandler & Grinder’s study of consistent top achievers & their strategies, culminated in a therapeutic model being created and translated as beneficial techniques. They discovered that anyone who applied these techniques could achieve similar results. The techniques are particularly effective for acquiring new skill-sets & eliminating unwanted behaviours & beliefs, as well as achieving tangible outcomes. Individuals are given tools to manage their states & perform at their peak, by reprogramming their minds.

NLP integrates insights from hypnotherapy, Gestalt therapy, behavioural & family therapy, linguistics & anthropology.

What does Neuro-Linguistic Programming mean?

  • Neuro - refers to the nervous system, guided by our five senses of seeing, hearing, feeling, tasting & smelling. Our thoughts are composed of these images, sounds & feelings & to a lesser degree taste & smell, which govern our beliefs about ourselves & others. Once we become aware that our internal images, sounds & feelings may be limiting us in some way, we are in a position to change them to empower us.

  • Linguistic - relates to our use of language & how specific words & expressions reflect our inner worlds. Additionally, our postures, gestures & habits correspond to our ‘silent language’ which may indicate our thinking & beliefs.

  • Programming - adopted from computer science, implies our brains run like computers. Our thoughts, emotions & behaviours are like habitual archaic programs which can be upgraded to the latest, premium software, by utilising NLP reprogramming techniques.

What is the Difference between NLP & Psychotherapy?

Traditional psychology predominantly focuses on expressing problems & investigating their historic origins. However, knowing the origins of a problem does not necessarily help us render it powerless. NLP assumes we do not need to know the root cause of a problem to overcome it. NLP addresses our internal representations & filters we put on our experiences, which affect us in the here & now. It provides pragmatic tools for growth & development, which effectively work on a subconscious level in both business & personal contexts. Thousands of people have attested to the invaluable impact NLP has had on their lives.

NLP is very effective in many life situations but particularly useful for:

Eliminating negative thought patterns & behaviours Enriching relationships
Traumatic Memories Building Confidence
Sports Performance Improving Communication Skills
